Once you offer both forms of verification \u2013 the password and the code \u2013 your account is unlocked and you can use it as normal.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Chances are you\u2019ve already run into Two-Factor Authentication at some point. Whether it was being asked to enter a code that was texted to you or verify an email sent to a trusted account, the point of Two-Factor Authentication is to offer you a greater degree of security when protecting your private accounts. Now, if your passwords are ever compromised, your accounts don\u2019t necessarily have to be\u2014as long as you have Two-Factor Authentication enabled.<\/p>\n<p>A number of different websites and services now offer Two-Factor Authentication, here\u2019s an easy all-in-one guide on how to enable it across all of them:<\/p>\n<h3>Enable Two-Factor Authentication for Apple<\/h3>\n<p>If you\u2019re an Apple user that has an iCloud account and at least one device that uses iOS 9 or OS X El Capitan or later, you can enable Two-Factor Authentication.<\/p>\n<p>To do this, follow the steps below:<\/p>\n<p>On any device running iOS 9 or later:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to \u201c<strong>Settings,<\/strong>\u201d select \u201c<strong>iCloud<\/strong>\u201d and then tap your Apple ID<\/li>\n<li>Tap \u201c<strong>Password &amp; Security<\/strong>\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Tap \u201c<strong>Turn on Two-Factor Authentication<\/strong>\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On a Mac running OS X El Capitan or later:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to the Apple menu, select \u201c<strong>System Preferences,<\/strong>\u201d then \u201c<strong>iCloud<\/strong>\u201d and finally \u201c<strong>Account Details<\/strong>\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Click \u201c<strong>Security<\/strong>\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Click \u201c<strong>Turn on Two-Factor Authentication<\/strong>\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Enable Two-Factor Authentication for Twitter<\/h3>\n<p>Twitter calls Two-Factor Authentication, \u201c<strong>Login Verification.<\/strong>\u201d Enabling it easy. Simply go to your account\u2019s \u201c<strong>Settings<\/strong>\u201d page and next to \u201c<strong>Account Security<\/strong>\u201d check the box that says \u201c<strong>Require a Verification Code When I Sign In.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Note: As of right now, Twitter only supports Two-Factor Authentication via SMS, so if your phone number isn\u2019t linked to your account you won\u2019t be able to select this option.<\/p>\n<h3>Enable Two-Factor Authentication for Facebook<\/h3>\n<p>To activate Facebook\u2019s Two-Factor Authentication, first login to your Facebook account, then select \u201c<strong>Settings<\/strong>\u201d from the menu in the top-right corner.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Select \u201c<strong>Security<\/strong>\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Then click \u201c<strong>Edit<\/strong>\u201d to the right of \u201c<strong>Login Approvals<\/strong>\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Finally, check \u201c<strong>Require a security code to access my account from unknown browsers<\/strong>\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Facebook will then prompt you to add your phone number and enter the confirmation code it sends you.<\/p>\n<h3>Enable Two-Factor Authentication for Yahoo<\/h3>\n<p>Yahoo\u2019s Two-Factor Authentication can be set up by visiting your Account Settings page.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click on \u201c<strong>Account Security<\/strong>\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Slide the switch at the bottom of the list to enable Two-Step Verification<\/li>\n<li>Enter your Phone Number and select \u201c<strong>Send SMS<\/strong>\u201d or \u201c<strong>Call Me<\/strong>\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Enable Two-Factor Authentication for Google<\/h3>\n<p>Google calls Two-Factor Authentication \u201c<strong>2-Step Verification.<\/strong>\u201d To turn it on enter your \u201c<strong>Account Settings<\/strong>\u201d and select \u201c<strong>Security.<\/strong>\u201d Then turn on \u201c<strong>2-Step Verification.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Enable Two-Factor Authentication for Git Hub<\/h3>\n<p>GitHub\u2019s Two-Factor Authentication process works in conjunction with SourceTree. To turn it on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to your \u201c<strong>Personal Access Tokens<\/strong>\u201d settings in GitHub<\/li>\n<li>Click on the \u201c<strong>Generate new token<\/strong>\u201d button<\/li>\n<li>Name the token<\/li>\n<li>Select which scopes you wish to grant this token<\/li>\n<li>Click the \u201c<strong>Generate token<\/strong>\u201d button<\/li>\n<li>Copy the token and use it as a password in your hosted repositories<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Enable Two-Factor Authentication for Microsoft<\/h3>\n<p>To turn on Two-Factor Authentication on your Microsoft account start by accessing the \u201c<strong>Security Info<\/strong>\u201d section of your account settings and simply turn it on.
