But I feel like I would be remiss not remind you that Google is ramping up pressure on website owners who haven\u2019t encrypted yet.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s right, coming next month <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.chromium.org\/2017\/04\/next-steps-toward-more-connection.html\">Google will release Chrome 62, and with it comes a new HTTP warning<\/a><\/strong>. Whereas before, Google would mark any website with a password field as \u201cNot Secure,\u201d now Google will be warning users about any unencrypted website with any kind of text field on it.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3058 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rapidsslonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/chrome-62-update-for-address-bar-indicators.png\" alt=\"HTTPS indicator in Chrome Address bar\" width=\"974\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rapidsslonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/chrome-62-update-for-address-bar-indicators.png 974w, https:\/\/www.rapidsslonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/chrome-62-update-for-address-bar-indicators-300x113.png 300w, https:\/\/www.rapidsslonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/chrome-62-update-for-address-bar-indicators-768x289.png 768w, https:\/\/www.rapidsslonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/chrome-62-update-for-address-bar-indicators-190x72.png 190w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 974px) 100vw, 974px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Google Chrome 62 Will Mark &#8220;Not Secure&#8221; to All HTTP Pages.<\/h2>\n<p>Think about it, what if someone sat out front of your storefront and told everyone that was about to go in, \u201cthis place doesn\u2019t have security?\u201d You\u2019d have no customers. Incidentally, I got a diner shut down in the 90\u2019s by doing something similar. I\u2026 [Editor\u2019s Note: We\u2019re going to omit this portion. Let\u2019s move along, Carl] \u2026and that\u2019s why it\u2019s illegal to put more than two cows in a mobile home in Bulloch County.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, Google isn\u2019t messing around.<\/p>\n<h3>Why does my website say \u201cNot Secure?\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>Because you have a password field on your website and you don\u2019t have encryption. Starting in Chrome 58 Google mandated that all websites with password fields must have SSL and be served over HTTPS. Without SSL encryption, a third party can eavesdrop on connections and steal information\u2014like passwords.<\/p>\n<p>Hence the warning.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-1L99l3pdGag\/WRswkUSBnaI\/AAAAAAAATcI\/0BvkZzQKFa4cFDQhedMe6wbWz2zPDcpSACLcB\/s1600\/http-search.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And the warning is going to start affecting more websites soon. In Chrome 62 the warning expands to any website with a text field. That could be a subscriber field or a search field. Any website with any kind of field where you can enter text will receive a warning and be marked \u201cNot Secure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Next year it\u2019s going to ramp up again and Google will come after anyone without SSL. Any site still served via HTTP will be marked \u201cNot Secure.\u201d It\u2019s the encryption apocalypse. Encrypti-. Enly-. Encropalypse?<\/p>\n<h3>How do I get SSL?<\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s not that difficult. Take it from me, I\u2019m not a computer guy and even I can get it. You need to start by ordering an SSL certificate. Then you\u2019ll generate a CSR and send it to the Certificate Authority you purchased the certificate from. They\u2019ll validate you and send you the certificate within a few days.<\/p>\n<p>After that, you\u2019ll have to install it on your server. We have a guide here, or else you can ask one of our experts (I won\u2019t answer \u2013 I promise).<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of whether you get it from us, you now need an SSL certificate. Well, I guess you don\u2019t NEED one. You can still have a website without one. But nobody will come to it because it says \u201cNot Secure.\u201d And if you\u2019re running a business you\u2019ll slowly bleed money until you\u2019re forced to close. With no source of income your bills will pile up and you\u2019ll be forced out of your home.
