That\u2019s why we\u2019re here.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This guide on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rapidsslonline.com\/ssl\/what-is-an-exchange-ssl-certificate\/\">best practices for SSL certificate on Microsoft Exchange<\/a> 2016 servers will cover:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rapidsslonline.com\/blog\/generate-csr-apache-openssl\/\">How to Create your CSR<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rapidsslonline.com\/ssl-questions\/install-ssl.aspx\">How to Install an SSL certificate<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>How to bind an SSL certificate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Without further ado, here\u2019s <strong>how to handle SSL on your Microsoft Exchange server<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<h3>How to Create a CSR on Microsoft Exchange Server 2016<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Step 1<\/strong> &#8211; Access the <strong>Exchange Admin Center (EAC)<\/strong> by opening your browser and heading to the URL for your server<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2<\/strong> &#8211; On the <strong>credentials<\/strong> page, type your <strong>Domain\/username<\/strong> and <strong>Password<\/strong> to sign in<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3<\/strong> &#8211; In the sidebar menu on the left, select <strong>Servers<\/strong> and then select <strong>Certificates<\/strong> from the menu<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4<\/strong> &#8211; On the <strong>certificates<\/strong> page, select your server from the drop-down menu<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 5<\/strong> &#8211; In the <strong>New Exchange Certificate<\/strong> wizard, select <strong>Create a request<\/strong>\u2026, click <strong>Next<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 6<\/strong> &#8211; Type the friendly name for the <strong>certificate<\/strong> and click <strong>Next<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>For Wildcards<\/strong>, make sure to use an asterisk at the sub-domain level you\u2019d like to encrypt in the <strong>Root Domain<\/strong> box<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Step 8<\/strong> &#8211; In the <strong>Store certificate request<\/strong>\u2026 box, click <strong>Browse<\/strong> and select the <strong>server<\/strong> you want to make the request for<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 9 &#8211; <\/strong>Complete the <strong>Certificate Request Signing<\/strong> form with the correct information<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 10<\/strong> &#8211; Save the <strong>CSR<\/strong> to a location that is easily accessible<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 11 <\/strong>&#8211; Click <strong>Finish<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now you will need to copy and paste the text from your CSR into a text editor, including the Begin and End Certificate prompts and all of the corresponding dashes (five on each side). Once you\u2019ve done this, send it to your Certificate Authority and they will issue your SSL certificate.<\/p>\n<h3>Installing and Configuring SSL on a Microsoft Exchange 2016 Server<\/h3>\n<p>Now that you have your certificate back from the CA, it\u2019s time to install it. Here\u2019s how:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1<\/strong> &#8211; Copy the <strong>certificate<\/strong> into your server\u2019s network share folder<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2<\/strong> &#8211; Access the <strong>EAC<\/strong> and sign in<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3<\/strong> &#8211; On the left sidebar, click <strong>Servers<\/strong> and then select <strong>Certificates<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4<\/strong> &#8211; On the <strong>certificates<\/strong> page, select the certificate request and under status select Complete<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 5<\/strong> &#8211; Under file to <strong>import<\/strong>, type the <strong>UNC path<\/strong> to your <strong>SSL certificate<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 6<\/strong> &#8211; Click <strong>OK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ok, now to configure the server<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1<\/strong> &#8211; On the <strong>Certificates<\/strong> page, in the center pane, select the <strong>SSL certificate<\/strong> you just <strong>installed<\/strong> and click the <strong>pencil<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2<\/strong> &#8211; In the window that <strong>opens<\/strong>, select <strong>Services<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3<\/strong> &#8211; Toggle all the services you want to apply your <strong>SSL certificate<\/strong> to on, then click <strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Boom.
